The Gateway window displays the buttons that let you access the six configuration areas of Gateway.
The center area will display messages. Currently messages like low space warnings and Mirror Delete processed are displayed there. Very important messages (like low space) will change the message LED to RED. Information messages will turn the LED YELLOW. No messages leave the LED green. There is a RESET button to "acknowledge" all messages and a CLEAR button to clear all messages.
The ABORT button will abort a scan in progress. While Gateway is in a scan, information concerning the scan will be displayed to the right of this button. Additionally, when a scan is active, the Scanning indicator will be active.
The Enable Scanner check box activates all scanning functions. Many of the configurations options described below require that scanning be stopped before proceeding. At this time, make sure that the Enable Scanner box is not checked so configuration can continue.
Setup - The Setup screen allows one access to advanced functions for fine-tuning and configuration of how Gateway runs. Mirrored Delete Schedule sets the time for when mirrored deletes should occur. Debug opens a debug screen.
Locs - In this window, one defines the source and destination file locations that will be used by Gateway. Clicking the Add button opens a screen allowing one to enter location and drive mapping information.
Reporter - The Reporter window displays results from the scanning of Rules via the Scanner and any errors. View Error Log opens a text file containing additional error messages.
Xporters – This screen displays the number of active high, medium, and low priority transporters. One can also abort (stop) and assign transporters. Transporters are used to move data from one location to another.
Queues - This window allows users to see what the scanner is working on. There are three queues viewable within this window (high, medium, and low). Check the appropriate box to see a specific queue.
Scanner - This is where administrators configure which files Gateway will transfer at which time intervals ("rules"); it also displays all rules. Internally to Gateway, the scanner scans through the rules and checks for new work. When it finds something that needs to be transferred, based on the priority of the rule, the scanner places the work item in the appropriate queue. The scanner then continues looking for more work to do. The Rules menu lets one set up new rules while other buttons at the bottom of the window allow for editing of existing rules.
Users should take the time to ensure the setup and overall configuration of Gateway complies with their needs. After all Gateway settings have been verified, administrators will create Locations, then rules within the Scanner. The results of the scanning can be tracked in both the Queues and Reporter screens.
