After
locations have been created, one will then create rules. The Scanner window
allows administrators the ability to set up, modify, monitor, and delete the
rules that specify the "who" (or "what"),
"where," and "when" of file transfer.
Rules can be grouped into a RuleSet for easier administration. For example, a user can create a generic RuleSet for a specific destination. A series of rules can then be added to this set. These rules would only be programmed for this one specific destination.
RuleSets are displayed within the Scanner in an expanding ‘tree’ format. Rules can also be given a description to reflect their roll.
Administrators can configure rules to scan at any time of the day in addition to defining times the rule should not scan. This allows one to set time priorities for a rule (for example, every twenty minutes) and prevent that same rule from scanning during other times of the day. When it is time for a rule to scan, it will look for any new items on the source location and transfer them to the destination location.
It is important for proper system backup that sets of rules exist to transfer all critical and necessary data to a backup location. Gateway provides a Mirrored Set rule, which performs this action. In addition to the Mirrored Set rule, administrators can create custom rules allowing specific data to be transferred to any location.
More details on setting up Rules can be found here.
Screen OverviewThe Scanner screen displays rules along with function control buttons.
The RULES menu allows users to add, modify, control (Reset, Force & Scan) plus copy / paste various rules. Adding a rule is discussed in the following pages.
Rule Function buttons are located across the bottom of the screen.
These buttons allow administrators to manually override the normal scanning functions of Gateway.
|
Function |
|
|
Modify Rule |
Opens the Add Rule window for the rule selected, enabling one to make modifications to the rule. To make the changes permanent, click the SAVE button. To abandon the changes, click the Cancel button. |
|
Delete Rule |
Lets a user permanently delete the highlighted rule. Gateway will display prompt to confirm the deletion. Click the OK button to delete the rule. |
|
Reset Rule
|
Checks to see if cut parameters (for example, kill dates) have been changed. When a user then clicks the Scan Rule button, Gateway will only copy the portion that has changed. Gateway will display a prompt confirming the reset. Click the OK button to reset the rule. |
|
Force Rule
|
This forces Gateway to scan the selected rule and re-transfer all data after a user clicks the Scan Rule button. Gateway will display a prompt to confirm forcing the rule. |
|
Scan Rule
|
Scans the highlighted rule, even if scanning is turned off on the Main Gateway window. |
| Refresh | Pressing refresh will refresh the Scanner screen. This can be helpful when watching for updated rules sent from the Send to Location from within the DAD Library screen. |
|
Close |
Close the scanner window. |
| Caution: Upon opening the Scanner screen after rules have been created, users should refrain from selecting a rule for a few moments. Rules will ‘appear’ unchecked upon first opening as Gateway creates the RuleSet tree display. Selecting a rule while Gateway is creating the tree display, one could inadvertently ‘toggle’ it’s checked state. |
