Setup

The Setup window allows a user to access functions that help the fine-tuning aspects of how Gateway runs.  Most Gateway users can use the default settings of the setup features and will experience excellent Gateway performance.  However, it's not a bad idea to review these settings; administrators may choose to adjust some settings to increase performance.

Click the Setup button on the Gateway/Dist window.  The Setup window opens.  Setup options are listed below.

OPTION

DEFAULT

DESCRIPTION

Mutually Exclusive Transporters

R

In systems with more than one transporter, prohibits more than one transporter from ever doing work at one particular site.

Max Queued Events

200

Lists the maximum number of items in the queue at any time.

Transfer All Same Dest. Events First

R

Checking this box will cause Gateway to transfer files in groups based on destination.  When using dialup RAS connections, checking this box will maximize transfer for each site connection.

Transfer Abort Timeout

1800

Lists the amount of time in seconds that Gateway will wait for a site before stopping the transfer. If users are transferring very large files over slow lines, increase this setting accordingly

Copy Buffer Delay (msec)

100

Increasing the value will slow down Gateway, but will reserve more network bandwidth for other uses. Decreasing will increase speed but consume more bandwidth.

Buffer size (Kbytes) field

16

Decreasing the value will slow down Gateway, but will reserve more network bandwidth for other uses. Increasing the value will speed up Gateway but consume more bandwidth.

NOTE: This value must be entered in kilobytes.

Verify Write box

q

To read each file in order to ensure that it copied correctly, check this box.  Usually it isn't necessary to check this box.

NOTE:  Turning on the Verify Write feature will slow down Gateway's overall performance.

Run with DOS

q

Checking this allows Gateway to be used with DADpro for DOS.

Update Search Database

q

Checking this option will allow Gateway to update the Quick Search databases on the destinations location.

Enable Scanner on STARTUP

q

This enables the scanner on startup of the application.

Log Missing Host

Audio Errors

q

To cause Gateway to log each instance of a missing audio file referred to by a DAD database, make sure this box is checked.

Interval Scan Delay (msec) field

10

This is the speed with which Gateway searches the cuts database when evaluating rules. Increasing this value will slow down Gateway, but will reserve more network bandwidth for other uses.

Scan Interval

Step Size field

10

Number of database entries that the scanner scans before it “takes a break.” Decreasing this value will slow down Gateway, but will reserve more network bandwidth for other uses. Increasing the value will speed up Gateway but consume more bandwidth.

Reporter Auto Flush Time fields

0

0

Time of day the reporter logs will be written to log files.

These logs are located in the Gateway\Logs folder.

Delete CUTSAUX on Exit

q

This checkbox will delete the CUTSAUX.DBF and the CUTSAUX.CDX files when the program is exited. The box will be unchecked upon startup. Deleting the CUTSAUX files will cause the program to rescan all the rules. Any data and audio that was missed by the program will then begin copying. The CUTSAUX files can become quite large and can be managed with this checkbox.

NOTE: Users should delete the CUTSAUX file as part of general file maintenance.

Note: One should use the Perform Mirrored Deletes Now option before one removes and clears the CUTSAUX database. If one were to clear the CUTSAUX database before doing a Mirrored Delete, one could have audio files stranded on the Destination server. These would be files that were deleted from the Primary but not from the Backup because a Mirrored Delete was not run before the CUTSAUX was cleared.

Prevent Newer File Overwrites

R

This option prevents Gateway from overwriting a file with a newer time/date stamp on the destination location.

DAD Requests Scan Interval

0

The value entered here is in seconds. When used, Gateway will scan for 'requests' from DAD to transfer a cut to another location via a Right Click in the DAD Library. Details on configuring DAD for this option can be found here

Perform Mirrored Delete Now button

Pressing this button will force Gateway to scan all rules performing Mirrored Deletes’.

Mirrored Delete Schedule button

Clicking the Mirrored Delete Schedule button opens the Mirrored Delete Schedule window. A mirrored delete schedule will automatically delete files from a secondary site that have already been deleted from a primary site.

Enter the time desired for this operation.

A valid time entry would be HH:MM:SS. One should also use the 24-hour Military time format.

Debug button

Clicking the Debug button opens the Debug window. This window provides coded diagnostic information that can be used by ENCO to help troubleshoot problems.

Checking the Enabled option will create the cdebug.txt for use with the command line option: /c#####  (for "tracing" a particular cut number)

Set button

Exits the Setup window; Gateway will now use current settings.

Cancel button

Exits the Setup window without saving current settings.
