Veteran Posts: 111 ![]() Location: Long Prairie, Minnesota | Version: 5.1e I would like to put a music bed under our weather forecast that we receive via ftp from an outside source. Can anyone give me an idea on how to accomplish this?
Thanks! Allen Bailey KEYL/KXDL Long Prairie, MN

We have used Tracker to provide Bed-VT-Outro transitions but it's a bit of a pain because you need to use the Cues window to back the bed off to the length of the VT so that the outro cut doesn't finish before the bed ends (red waveforms etc). I'm sure there's a neater way of doing this! eg: Our events bed is 3min, the events dry cut is 1:05, so we adjust the Tail Marker on the bed to about 1:07 (so it can fade) and then open Tracker.

![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Greenville, SC | We do something similar, but with traffic reports. Basically, we use a DCL to press an array button that contains the bed. If you trying to donut the weather with a open, bed, close ... that's another story. Just to point out another feature of DAD with Traffic and Weather -- DROPBOX. Setup dropbox to watch the local folder of the FTP server and have whoever upload the file directly to the cut number. Works perfect.

Veteran Posts: 111 ![]() Location: Long Prairie, Minnesota | Would I have to toggle "off" the array in setup? Or is it possible to set the transition code to S for the music bed in the playlist and have the segue start at 1 sec followed by the actual forecast. I do use dropbox and have a program that automatically gets the file(s) I need from the ftp site and automatically puts it in dropbox for later playback. Thanks for the mini array idea!

If your playlist and array are on different outputs, using an array button basically accomplishes the same thing.

Member Posts: 7 Location: Elkhart, Indiana | In a playlist I'd say go for an overplay. We get forecasts from The Weather Channel via a download system. Our weather bed is in the playlist as part of the stopset with the weather being set to Overplay with a delay of four seconds (to allow the jingle to start). Their forecast is a set length (by our contract 25 seconds) so the bed is timed to have a stinger/outro at the 29 second mark. Audio production on the bed (pre ducked levels) was the hardest part of this setup. During most hours we have a second overplay in place so our live operator can add the current temperature to the forecast. For those playbacks, the bed is the regular element in the playlist, the TWC weather is set to Overplay, delay 4, and the tag is set to Overplay, delay 29. As long as the operator records their tag within their allotted time and TWC does their job it sounds pretty good.) We do this during live assist (the weather starts the commercial break twice an hour) as well as during voicetrack hours (where the temperature isn't used and the bed is shorter).

Expert Posts: 73 ![]() ![]() Location: Southfield Michigan | I've done this in the past using Scheduling Wizard to "schedule" multiple cuts or you could also do this in a single cut by making that a playlist cut containing the following: DCL to load and play music bed delay for .5 seconds cut you put your weather on DCL to stop fade the music bed for .5 seconds delay for .4 seconds The DCL's mentioned above could be a bunch of different things; it's up to you to figure out how to best apply the tools you have available in your workflow.

Expert Posts: 73 ![]() ![]() Location: Southfield Michigan | You'll have to create two command cuts in DAD using the following structure and then create an event in Swiz. I like to do these kinds of things with a combination of command cuts and Scheduling Wizard. You'll be creating a weather event to place into your SchedWiz clocks. In the pre-event action place the following items: command cut #1 (STOP PBK2:UNLOAD PBK2:LOAD CUT XXXXX PBK2:PLAY PBK2) DELAY of 500 milliseconds weather cut # command cut #2 (STOP PBK2 1:DELAY NEXT COMMAND 5000:UNLOAD PBK2) DELAY of 500 milliseconds Make sure all your transitions are Autoplay. Note that this specific example may not work with your setup. And there are other things that come into play like channel assignments. Contact support for more guidance.

Veteran Posts: 111 ![]() Location: Long Prairie, Minnesota | What about the playlist cut way to do it? That would be easier I think for our purposes. In other words, where would I put the DCL commands in order for this to work? Then it could be the same cut number as what we are currently using in our "program log" thanks Allen Bailey

Expert Posts: 73 ![]() ![]() Location: Southfield Michigan | Make a playlist with those elements in it, then add a playlist cut that points at your new playlist. It's just that easy! The playlist cut would be scheduled as your weather cut in your program log.

Veteran Posts: 111 ![]() Location: Long Prairie, Minnesota | After some studying of the library modify page...I ahve been able to put music under my weather forecasts which come in via ftp automatically. On the library modify page, you will see in the lower right corner...START DCL. You can put a letter A - Z in the box. I manually modified a command cut to read b.cmd (The command cut has the dcl play minar2 10 5 2 ...that is the weather bed). When the wx cut starts playing, the music bed plays underneath the forecast. Sounds great. I am finding all kinds of things that I can do with this. Just thought I would share a "tip."
