DATE: November 13, 1995 RE: PROCEDURE FOR INSTALLING DADPRO ON A NOVELL 3.12 NETWORK Preliminaries: Ensure that file server and workstation hardware meets or exceeds ENCO minimum standards for running DAD (Refer to the DAD Data Sheet). Make sure you are using frame type Ethernet_802.3. Utilize NETX instead of VLM. Use a mirrored IDE drive pair for the SYS: volume and set its block size to 16KB. All Novell system files as well as the DAD software and databases will reside on the SYS: volume. Use approved SCSI drives for audio storage. We suggest mirroring or duplexing for redundancy. Set the block size for these drives to 64KB. You may assign a volume label of your choice, usually VOL1: , VOL2: etc. Set cache buffer size = 16384; set enable disk read after write verify = off; set minimum packet receive buffers = 50 times number of network interface cards (NIC's), or 100 for a single NIC; set maximum physical receive packet size = 1530. Load all applicable Novell certified patches. (Current 3.12 patch level: PT6.) 1) Login as SUPERVISOR or equivalent. 2) Create a DAD subdirectory on the server's SYS: volume. Create CUTS subdirectories on any volumes where audio cuts will reside. Create mappings to these directories, such as MAP F:=SYS:\DAD MAP G:=VOL1:\CUTS . 3) Enter SYSCON and create Novell login names of those who will be using the system. For simplicity, assign Novell login names based on the location names of your DAD workstations, i.e. DAD1, DAD2. Create group DAD_GROUP and assign all DAD users to this group. Then go to Trustee Directory Assignments and give RWCEMF rights for the DAD and CUTS subdirectories to DAD_GROUP. Give the EVERYONE group RF rights to the root directory of all volumes so the volume error log may be viewed if necessary. Update the system login script as necessary. A sample NET$LOG.DAT is provided in the SYS:\DAD\READ.ME directory and may be viewed after the software is installed. 4) Insert Installation Disk One into a workstation floppy drive. Attach to drive A: or B: as appropriate by typing A: or B: respectively. Type INSTALL and follow onscreen prompts. 5) The installation procedure will install all program material, as well as the configuration files for each workstation. 6) Ensure that workstations logging into the network utilize appropriate CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files. Sample DOS 6.22 files are available on our bbs and on your system expansion or installation diskette. The AUTOEXEC.BAT must contain a @set location=[workstation name] line.
