 Gateway Gateway.txt "readme" file Jul.10.2008
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is information regarding the latest release of the ENCO Systems
Gateway/Dist software package. Note: These notes are intentionally vague.
They are simply a list of changes made to Gateway/Dist. Specific, detailed
information on any of these items should be acquired from ENCO Tech Support
at +1 (248) 827-4440 (Tech Support cannot be reached via the 800 line).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
                       Gateway 8.1b (Jul ??, 2008)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
When Gateway copies a Workstation Config CFI file - the CUTSERVER_IP_ADDDRESS
is now removed from the target file

Location->Add now prevents duplicate Location Names even after converting
    locations from older Gateways

Location->Add screens now have some helpful sample strings

CriticalFiles->CutSecurityFiles rule now properly processes open *.CSD files

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
                       Gateway 8.1a (May 23, 2008)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Added a Transfer Content control to User Setup Rules. Default is enabled.
When enabled - G/W will check to see that any cuts required within a User
Setup are synchronized between Source and Destionation locations. This
adds overhead to User Setup Rule scanning.

Added a REBUILD DATABASE button to Locations->Database->Modify window to allow
a user to do a Rebuild on a Remote Database rigth from within Gateway.
Scanning must be stopped to do this.

Defaults for Transfer Content for Playlist and UserSetup Rules within the
Mirrored Rule Set are now both DISABLED. Since Mirrored Rules include
a Cut Range Rule for 1-99999 - there's no need for Playlist and User Setup
    rules to check cut content.

Corrected problems with transferring some User Setup files. CVT were not
being cleaned up, and sometimes the User Setup CFG's were not transfered.

Corrected problems with translations within User Setup files for Library
    Location changes

Added some "sample" strings to Location setup so it's let confusing what
kind of data to use. Setup->DisableTimes also has sample time strings
(which MUST be hh:mm:ss - 4:12:24 will NOT work - must be 04:12:24)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
                       Gateway 8.0a (Apr 04, 2008)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Revamped LOCATIONS to support the three types of locations that can exist:
A = Audio - for defining where audio files are (or will be) located
D = Database - for defining where Codebase databases (.dbf) are located
S = SQL - for defining where SQL based data tables are located.
Note that Database Name in SQL is something like F_CUTS or C_CUTS, etc.

The LibPath (library path) information has been removed from LOCATIONS and
is now in the RULES themselves allowing for any combination of audio and
    data locations.

Dist and Dist-Wo and Gateway-Wo are no longer supported. All EXE's are
copied from Gateway.exe to maintain existing shortcuts. Therefore RAS
(remote access server/dialup networking) is no longer supported.

Pressing the RESET button in the SCANNER will reset the last date/time
scanned information for the hilited rule. This could be used if the
date/time of the machine got set incorrectly - possibly interupting
the proper scan cycle for a rule.

Supports the new Cut Security file system with MLIB support

Queues Window now stretches vertically to allow more entries to be seen

New Setup->Disable ALL setting allows the absolute pausing of Gateway activity
for the specified period. Useful for auto-Unique-Rebuilds.
Has DOW checkbox to allow the specifying of one or more days per week to disable Gateway.

Enable Scanning checkbox and Abort Rule button now behave better to stop rule scanning.

CutRange rule and the new Transfer Contect checkbox. Default is
enabled (transfer audio). Turning it off will allow for transferring
a library to another destination. Specifying not LibName for the
destination will use the Source LibName

cuts - so proper transfers would not trigger.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
                       Gateway 5.2h (May.15.2007)

Playlist Rule. Was improperly creating "Playlist Not Found" errors.

Corrected a problem with updating LibLoc for RecordLists and CutSecurity
file processing in a Critical Files Rule. LibLoc wasn't being updated.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
                       Gateway 5.2g (not released)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Added support for SQL based DAD Databases. All handled within the creation
of LOCATIONS. For an SQL data locaion - select the SQL mode:
       SQLserver, Mimer, MySQL
This will prompt for DatabaseName, UserName, Password in the lower
       portion of the Locations screen
UNC should still point to where \dad\files lives
Drive Letter is still LOCATION for audio
Library Path is still typically \dad\files\

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Corrected a problem when trying to scan a cut that doesn't have a way to
resolve a LOCATION. Would stop the entire rule from completing instead
of just reporting the missing audio drive and moving on

Changed the Scan Size default to 100 (was 10) (number of cuts to scan)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
                       Gateway 5.1b (Jun.16.2006)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Updated Gateway to properly support the new DAD CFI files introduced in 5.1a

Scanner Rule List now displays the unique and fixed Rule # for each rule.

New "Send To Location" feature added to Library in DAD.
Allows user to send one or more cuts to a Gateway Location by sending a
request to a Gateway. Transfers and status all handled by Gateway.
Use %datadir%\dad\files\LibSend.ini to control this new feature.
    A sample LibSend.ini is provided in C:\dad\files by setupDAD-xxx
    User access is via Library->RightClick->SendToLocation->location
Enable in Gateway by setting Setup->DAD Requests Scan Internal to nonzero

Gateway now supports the DAD "GATEWAY SCAN RULE #" DCL
Requires the LibSend.ini described above be used.
Use the Rule # as listed in the Scanner also described above.

Now supports the new Filecheck (EDL/SLT) fields

Corrected THE problem that would cause Gateway to shut down after just a
few hours of running and never get (R) data to get completely synced

Improved GUI behavior during long scans.

Corrected a timing problem between Gateway and AudioCVT when doing
conversion rules. Could have resulted in no files being transfered
    to the destination.

When the Scanner compares Date/Time of audio files - it now allows for the
times to be off by up to 2 seconds. This allows for differences in
FAT32 and NTFS storage of time data.
    Thank you Roger Taylor!!

Overwrite" option. If Prevent is enabled - it won't allow updates from
    older audio to newer audio.

Gateway now modifies destination EDL's as necessary to support changed
    target cut numbers

Gateway was defaulting to useing DATABASE drive letters for the Audio
mappings. This resulted in cuts not being transfered.
Now properly uses the Audio Mappings drive.

field if Gateway was converting the source cut

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
                       Gateway 4.4b (Oct.23.03)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rules now support CONVERTING cuts to other formats when sending to a
destination. This feature requires the use of the MPEG_CVT package
from ENCO. Settings controlled by running c:\gateway\transfer\audiocvt.exe
Dolby-AC2 source cuts currently not supported.

Rules now supports days/times at which Gateway will NOT scan. Very
useful when trying to make sure Gateway is idle at a specific time (like
for Unique Rebuild, etc.). Accessed via the "Don't Scan" button in a rule

New Rule Set type added: Mirror Set
Adds 11 rules that make up a typical mirroring scenario. This feature is
considered "in development" and will be completed in a future release.

Corrected a problem with copying an active DAD Groups database.

Gateway will now copy Switcher Command Cuts - i.e. cuts with no audio and
with no CMD files associated with it. Previously a database record would
not be moved unless there was an associated file.

Gateway now supports an option to copy Voice Overs only.
Accessed with the TRANSFER VO option in a rule.

Corrected a problem when trying to convert/transfer a cut that was held
"open" in a record machine in DAD.

cut#.ext (where ext is specified in the library - like .WAV). Important
for users of the new Convert option within a rule.

  Internal notes:
   - using all latest DAD fields
   - using cb65

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
                       Gateway 4.4a (not released)

Correction made to the SHUTDOWN mechanism to maintain the status of the
"scanner enabled" switch. Also handles shutting down while actively
    scanning (by aborting the scanning)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
                       Gateway 4.3p (May.23.02)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Found and corrected a reversed logic problem with the new support for
not copying NEWER over OLDER files. The logic was correct for audio
files - but reveresed for non-audio files. This is controlled by
    the "SETUP/Newer file overwrites" option

Added a new SETUP switch "RUN WITH DOS" for users with mixed DOS DADpro
and DADpro32 environments. The EDL files are different, using this
switch will keep the EDL's in a format that DOS can use.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
                       Gateway 4.3n (May.21.02)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gateway can now be shutdown by a COMMAND LINE UTILITY called:
SHUTDISTNOW which can be found in the \gateway directory.
Using this command without a parameter will try to shut down a
gateway/dist running on the same machine.

An optional IP address (or resolvable name) can be specified as
a command line parameter to shutdown a gateway/dist on another
     machine. Example: SHUTDISTNOW 10.44.44.44
     or SHUTDISTNOW BACKUP

Using the new startup option -b or -B or /b or /B will force Gateway/Dist
to "live" in the System Tray (rather than the Task Bar) when started up
     and whenever minimized

When Gateway creates destination data in the CUTSAUX database, the data now
from the destination files itself - no longer assumes the host data is
     the same

When Gateway evaluates date/time stamps, if the source is older than the
destination, the transfer will NOT take place and a message is logged

Gateway now supports newer style DAD USER SETUP FILES. This will properly
support the transfer of all P_PLAY and ARRAY button cuts

Support for updating the SEARCH database in SETUP has been turned off
     and greyed out.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
                       Gateway 4.3k (Feb.27.02)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
If LOG MISSING HOST AUDIO is enabled in SETUP, error entries will now be
written to the error log not just the reporter screen. When not enabled
no entries will be sent to either the log or screen.

Upon startup of Gateway, XFERSTART entries in the CUTSAUX are now cleared.
This will allow records that had errors in previous transfers to get a
    fresh evaluation for transfer

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
                       Gateway 4.3i (Jan.18.02)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    RAS functionality

Added CheckBox in SETUP to allow for deleting the CUTSAUX files on next
exit. note this works once per exit and the checkbox is cleared

Added the ability for a Playlist rule to transfer "without content" so
intelligent wild cards can be used and so PLIST.DBF can get updated
    without checking for content

Added two options to MISC RULES:
    a) specifying /SS on the source filespec will include subdirectories
and will keep all files in sync (could be high performance cost on
    large numbers of files)
       example: \dad\files\*.*/SS
    b) specifying /SN on the source filespec will include subdirectories
but will NOT keep the files in sync. i.e. will copy all files every
    scan. example: \dad\files\*.*/SN

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
                       Gateway 4.3g (Dec.06.01)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Added support for the new ARTIST field in the Cuts Database (Library)

                       Gateway 4.3f (Nov.29.01)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Corrected another error associated with transfering open cut security files

Rule numbers now display in the Scanning Area so you can tell what rule is
     being processed

Initial implementation of IP Socket based XML responses to ENCO's "Guardien"
application monitoring package. Official support coming in g/w 4.4a

Corrected problems with transfering Voice Overs embedded into playlists

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
                       Gateway 4.3d (Nov.06.01)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Added support for transfering "open" database files - like groups, etc.
Used to ignore these open files.

New Reference Guide can be found in \gateway\gateway.doc (word format)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
                       Gateway 4.3c (Aug.13.01)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cut Security files are now processed by the Critical Files/Security Rule

An elusive "stopping" of Gateway in some sites (after 4 days) problem was
     corrected

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
                       Gateway 4.3b (May.18.01)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note: this version REQUIRES the deletion of c:\gateway\CUTSAUX.* !!
(we recommend this procedure be done periodically - like a rebuild)

Improved modified time checking procedures to minimize audio file transfers

Increased FILESIZE field in cutsaux to handle files larger than 99,999,999
    (requires CUTSAUX.* be deleted)

Improved handling of elements queued multiple times (large or slow moving
queue) to mimimze audio file transfers

Added commas to ByteCount and FileSize to improve readability

Added X-tra Info data showing more details on reasons for audio file transfer

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
                       Gateway 4.3a (Apr.12.01)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Main Gateway window now has a message box for important messages.
Currently messages like low space warnings and Mirror Delete processed
are displayed there. Very important messages (like low space) will
change the message LED to RED. Information messages will turn the LED
YELLOW. No new messages leaves the LED green. There is a RESET button
to "acknowledge" all messages and a CLEAR button to clear all messages.
This message windows is a 500 event FIFO and is not written to disk.

Users can now specify an INCLUDE or EXCLUDE group list in a CUT RECORD MASK
Example: create a file called c:\gateway\mygroups.txt.
  In the CUT RECORD MASK GROUP field use the special entry:  {mygroups}
This rule will then process the mygroups.txt file as follows:
The file can contains either the line #EXCLUDE OR the line #INCLUDE
(but not both!). Then any groups specified below that line (one group
per line) will be included or excluded by the SCANNER for rules pointing
    to this file

LOCATIONS now support a MINIMUM SPACE parameter. Hiliting a LOCATION will
now check to see that this minimum space is met and turn the LED red if not
and green if OK. The actual space available on that location is also
  displayed.

LOCATIONS now support a WARN USER option if the MINIMUM SPACE ever gets low.
This controls the display sent to the main message window described above.
This was made optional for those LOCATIONS accessed via questionable links.
If a link goes away (T1 goes down for example), the minimum space alarm
  would trigger.

The CONFIG Critical File Rule now includes *.CFG, *.GPO, *.GPI, *.IS? and
  *.OS? files

Deleting entries from the QUEUE now delete the corresponding event from the
"CUTSAUX" database (the main G/W database) causing a more complete analysis
  on the next scan

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
                       Gateway 4.2g (Mar.12.01)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gateway now properly processes Workstation Based channel assignement files
  (*.cha)

Corrected an error in processing certain CUT MASK based rules.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
                       Gateway 4.2f (Mar.05.01)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Corrected MISC RULES processing. Scanner would occaisionally not find new
     work to do.

Changes made to column size and placement are now "remembered"

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
                       Gateway 4.2e (Jan.24.01)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Additional corrections made to Scanner Rule syncronization

Columns in most screens are now adjustable and repositionable

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
                       Gateway 4.2d (Jan.23.01)

first rule was controlling the scheduling of all rules.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
                       Gateway 4.2c (not officially released)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Corrected error in processing a "blank" Cut Mask criteria record. If the
mask dialog was opened, a "blank" record was created preventing any matches
from occurring - crippling the rule.

"Open" files will now transfer correctly. Example: Groups.dbf, asplays,
.res files (which may require later DADpro32 s/w)

New RULE added: USERSETUP FILE rule for moving user setup files

Delete playlist rule supports "+" and "-" days

Scan Rate window has a new "CLEAR ALL" button

Scanner and Reporter windows have "new and improved" screens

  Command line option added: -c
Allows for the tracing of the specified cut to the "cdebug.txt" when
the SETUP/DEBUG window option is enabled.

Misc Rules revamped and working in a more "obvious" way.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
                       Gateway 4.2b (Sep.23.00)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
  Corrected some multi-tasking issues. Stabilized.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Command line options:
-b Gateway/Dist runs in system tray rather than Task Bar

-t text places specified text on Title bar to help identify the application

Internal use command line options:
  -c##### (for "tracing" a particular cut=#####)
must be used with setup/debug/enabled - creates cdebug.txt

  -genedebug
general activity debugging file - creates genedebug.txt

-whyaudio - creates why.debug (reasons for audio transfer)
