Client Spotlight: WAMU in Washington, DC
NPR Member Station WAMU helped pioneer a proactive approach to captioning and transcribing their essential newsworthy oral programming to the benefit of a large and engaged deaf and hard of hearing community in America's capital. WAMU used a service provider with live human transcription and live sign language interpretation for that particular broadcast, but recognized that a different approach would be needed to serve this community on an ongoing basis. “The timing of the content can be unpredictable, which means we can’t schedule a transcriptionist or sign language interpreter,” explained Bertrand.
